Without the ability to use ropes, you're depending on having climbing gloves or a lot of bombs + paste to maybe work the terrain into something you can scale at certain points. You can easily get stuck without the right equipment. You can only keep your 'permanent' upgrades (Climbing gloves, paste, spike shoes, etc.). You can't use ropes, which sucks in any level where you have to travel upwards. You carry in items from the previous level and are practically given a path onto the boss's weak point where you can just hammer away with excalibur. Alien compass can only be found in the Temple. You can't continue any Van Horsing quests. You can beat the game while keeping the sword. Even if you could keep it, you'd lose it when self-sacrificing. However, you only retain the scepter as far as the next level, at which point you give it away. +Excalibur, while nice and powerful (and a downgraded crysknife), is no scepter. You can take remove packs and capes and leave the sword, die in the lava trap, then pick up your items before heading into Abzu. When you sacrifice yourself in the City of Gold, say goodbye to any packs, capes, or held items. +In accessing the secret level, you can retain your items. Sorceresses (Accurate, long range attack that deals 2 damage and can spawn additional enemies, including erractically flying bees)Ĭat mummies (Erractic movement patterns when alerted and can curse you to 1 hp)Ĭobras (You can still get poisoned in this biome anyways) There are enemies that can inflict poison, but are usually easily avoided with some careful pacing.Ĭrocmen (Deal 2 damage, can telefrag you, and have erractic movement patterns) Enemies in the Tide Pool are easier to deal with by and large, mostly consisting of Jiangshi. There are still many sources of instant death, be it from spikes or hidden snap traps, but the Temple is littered with crush blocks. +(This is a more personal point) The Tide Pool is far, far easier. Can't rescue Van Horsing for later optional objectives. +Rescuing the forest sprites will net you rewards during the Olmec fight: +Volcana's lava-centric nature means that, if you have any packs, a single hit from most of the biome's enemies will cause your pack to explode and end your run. +Rescuing Van Horsing can often times be just as laborious as getting the udjat eye, with the key spawning at the bottom and the cell on the top layer. +Reaching the black market does not consume the udjat eye, so you can still see gems and hidden items in the terrain without the need for spectacles. +The black market is less prone to random deaths like falling lava and whatnot that result with the drill. Seriously, try to get the ankh with only Volcana items, it's nigh impossible.) (Helpful for clearing out mobs in the levels and can be useful for Olmec phase 2. +Easier to get a shotgun from either murder or purchase with the higher number of shops (The alternative, easier way to defeat Olmec phase 2.) +Easier to get paste from spiders or shops (Practically essential for getting the ankh.)
